2020 NFL MOCK DRAFT
NOTES:
Value is based on my composite big board
Measurements based on NFL Combine
First Round
1. CINCINNATI BENGALS
(2-14)
Joe
Burrow-QB-LSU Value near EVEN
6-3/221
NFL Comparison: Jim Kelly/Troy Aikman/David Carr
After having arguably the greatest season by a QB in college football history, Joe Burrow is set to be the clear #1 pick in the 2020 draft. The Bengals will hope the Ohio native can take them to the playoffs within 4 years.
He compares to Kelly in toughness and size. Like both Kelly and Aikman he does no one thing great (other than win) but does everything well. Aikman had similar size and the only knock on him was the lack of an elite arm. However, he could also end up like Carr, who like Burrow had one year of monster production in college. Carr was picked #1 overall by a bad team and struggled in his career.
2. WASHINGTON REDSKINS (3-13)
Chase Young-EDGE-Ohio
St Value near EVEN
6-5/265
NFL Comp: John Abraham/Michael Strahan
Young is a generational he best pass rush prospect. He averaged 13.5 sacks and 17.75 tackles for loss the past two seasons. He has Hall of Fame potential and his floor is probably that of former All Pro John Abraham. Barring injury, this guy will be a star. He also ends up in an ideal place. New coach Ron Rivera is a defensive guru that can get the best out of Young.
3. DETROIT LIONS (3-12-1)
Jeffrey Okudah-CB-Ohio
St Value near EVEN
6-1/205/4.48/40 inch
vert
NFL Comp: Champ Bailey/Stephon Gilmore
The Lions will try to trade down. If they stay Okudah is the smart choice. He is a true press man corner that can mirror a top end receivers. In a division where you face Davante Adams and Mike Evans twice a year, having a true #1 corner is a game changer. Matt Patricia can use him similar to how the Patriots use Gilmore.
4. NEW YORK GIANTS (4-12)
Tristan Wirfs-OT-Iowa Value -3
6-5/320/34.0/24 reps/4.85
NFL Comp: Tyron Smith/Brandon Scherff
The Giants invest in QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley the past two draft. Now they need to protect them. New OC Jason Garrett wants great athletes for his blocking scheme. Wirfs is an incredible athlete that is in the Tyron Smith mold. Like Smith coming out of college in 2011, Wirfs has not played left tackle but possess the raw tools to make the transition.
5. MIAMI DOLPHINS (5-11)
Andrew Thomas-OT-UGA
Value -8
6-5/315/36.125/21r
NFL Comp: Ronnie Stanley/Jake Matthews
The Dolphins could easily take a QB here but the smart move may be to take the two time All American tackle at #5 then trade back up to get a QB. They could possibly stay put at #18 and get Jordan Love. Thomas is probably the safest player in this class. He started as true freshman for a team that made it to the title game. He is also a high character guy that Head Coach Brian Flores covets.
6. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (5-11)
Tua
Tagovailoa-QB-Alabama Value near EVEN
6-1/217
NFL Comp: Mark Brunell/Matt Leinart
Tua has all of the intangibles you look for in a QB. He is smart, has great poise, is an accurate passer and is a proven winner. He is also an undersized lefty with many injury questions. The Chargers have great players to surround him with so he could have similar success to what he had in college as long as he stays healthy. At #6 he is worth the risk.
7. CAROLINA PANTHERS (5-11)
Isaiah
Simmons-LB/SS-Clemson Value +3
6-4/239/4.39/39 inch
vert
NFL Comp: Brian Urlacher/Kam Chancellor/Jack Ham
Goodbye Luke Kuechly and welcome version Luke 2.0 Like the former All Pro, Simmons is a freak athlete that matches his athletic traits with physical play. Simmons is Mr. Versatility, as he played linebacker, safety and slot corner while he was at Clemson. Carolina needs a ton of help on defense.
8. ARIZONA CARDINALS (5-10-1)
Derrick
Brown-DT-Auburn Value +2
6-5/326/34.25/28r
NFL Comp: Akiem Hicks/Kevin Williams
The Cardinals could go offensive tackle here but let’s not forget this team was DEAD LAST in total defense last year. They should start up front by getting the space eating Brown. He has proven he can lineup anywhere on the line and have an impact. DC Vance Joseph can use him in many ways to disrupt the great offenses of the NFC West.
9. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (6-10)
Jerry
Jeudy-WR-Alabama Value
near EVEN
6-1/193/4.45/35v
NFL Comp: Chad Johnson/Marvin Harrrison
Jacksonville gets the
most polished route runner to come out of college in quite some time. Jeudy
alongside big bodied DJ Chark and speedster Dede Westbrook would give
Jacksonville a dynamic young WR core.
10. CLEVELAND BROWNS (6-10)
Jedrick
Wills-OT/G-Alabama Value near EVEN
|
||||||||||||||||||||
|
Jack Conklin was a
great signing but they need a better bookend than Chris Hubbard, Baker was
under a lot of pressure in 2019. Wills is a physical beast that would be an
instant starter. The Kentucky native goes north one state to give the emerging
Browns another key piece on the offense.
11. NEW YORK JETS (7-9)
Ceedee
Lamb-WR-Oklahoma Value +4
6-2/197/4.5
NFL Comp: Greg Jennings/Torry Holt
The Jets will either
give QB Sam Darnold more protection or a weapon. Lamb fits the mold as a true
#1 WR. Lamb would instantly be the most talented WR on the roster. He can beat
you deep and on intermediate routes. Darnold just needs to get line help in the
3rd round.
12. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
(7-9)
CJ Henderson-CB-Florida Value -2
6-1/204/3.39
NFL Comp: Byron Jones/Quentin Jammer
With Jeudy and Lamb
off the board the Raiders consider the small speed demon Henry Ruggs but
ultimately go with Henderson. He is a long athletic press man corner that is
only a notch below Okudah. Pairing Henderson with Trayvon Mullen give the
Raiders a young corner duo to help contend with Patrick Mahomes and the
Chiefs
13. MIAMI
DOLPHINS
Via Projected Trade
w/SF
Justin
Herbert-QB-Oregon Value -4
6-6/238
NFL Comp: Blake Bortles/Brady Quinn
I only project one
trade and only because it makes too much sense for both teams. The Dolphins
want a young QB and the 49ers have no picks in rounds 2-4 so it make sense.
Herbert is a reach in the top 10 but is worth the risk at 13. He has all of the
physical tools and is known for his high IQ. However those tools have not
always led to success on the field. If given time he can be successful but he
must improve a lot.
14. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (7-9)
Josh
Jones-OT-Houston Value
-7
6-5/311/33.63/24r
NFL Comp: Laremy Tunsil/Eugene Monroe
Tampa is in win now
mode after signing Tom Brady and trading for Gronk. They cannot afford to take
an injury risk with Mekhi Becton. His loss is Jones' gain. The other advantage
Jones has over Becton is that he is older and more NFL ready. Tampa needs a
plug and play OT to protect Mr. Brady
15. DENVER BRONCOS (7-9)
Henry
Ruggs-WR-Alabama Value +3
5-11/188/4.27
NFL Comp: Mike Wallace/Santana Moss
Ruggs is fastest man
in the draft. Drew Lock has a big arm and could use this speedster to help
him in year two. Ruggs can be used in many ways and can be a matchup problem
for AFC West defensive coordinators
16. ATLANTA FALCONS (7-9)
Mekhi
Becton-OT-Louisville
Value Near EVEN
6-7/364/35.5
NFL Comp: Leonard Davis/Cordy Glenn
Pretty easy decision
for the Falcons to take the best player on the board an improve one of the
worst offensive lines in the league. Becton is a mountain of a man that can
play tackle or guard. The Falcons must protect Matt Ryan.
17. DALLAS COWBOYS (8-8)
Xavier
McKinney-S-Alabama Value -2
6-0/201/4.63/19r
NFL Comp: Tre Boston/Michael Huff
In my mock last year I
had the Cowboys taking Darnell Savage at #58. Savage ended up going in the
first round to the Packers. Dallas took (reached) on DT Trysten Hill in the
second round. They still have a major need at safety and should not pass on McKinney
here.
18. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Via Projected Trade
w/MIA
Javon Kinlaw-DL-South
Carolina Value
+5
6-5/324/34.8
NFL Comp: Chris Jones/Eric Swann
The 49ers trade down
and still get the best player on the board in Kinlaw. He may drop
slightly due to some injury concerns. Kinlaw would fill the void left by
DeForest Buckner at defensive tackle.
19. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
Justin
Jefferson-WR-LSU Value -2
6-1/202/4.43
NFL Comparison: Tyler Boyd/Reggie Wayne
The Raiders get the WR
they need with their second pick in the first round. Like Wayne and Boyd,
Jefferson lacks ideal size must makes up for it with great production, hands
and route running..
20. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Patrick
Queen-LB-LSU Value +2
6-0/229/4.5/18r
NFL Comparison: Deion Jones/Eric Kendricks
Corner is a bigger
need but the value is too to pass up on the ultra-athletic LB from LSU. Myles
Jack has been inconsistent and newly added Joe Schoebert is solid but not
great. Queen is the athlete they have lacked since Telvin Smith retired.
21. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (9-7)
K'Lavon
Chaisson-EDGE-LSU Value +5
6-3/254/32.5
NFL Comparison: Danielle Hunter/Dee Ford
The run on LSU players
continues with Chaisson. The edge rusher is raw but has the raw tools teams
look for in a pass rusher. Derek Barnett will be a free agent next year
and may be too expensive to keep, Philly always looks beyond the current season
when drafting.
22. MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Yetur
Gross-Matos-EDGE-Penn St Value -4
6-5/266/34.8/20r
NFL Comparison: Chandler Jones/Jason Pierre Paul
The Vikings need a
young pass rusher. Gross Matos is big, athletic and was productive in
college.
23. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (12-4)
Ezra
Cleveland-OT-Boise Value N/A as is he is moving up boards
6-6/311/33.4/30r/4.93
NFL Comp: Nate Solder/Eric Winston
The Patriots have a
history of taking offensive lineman earlier than projected like when they took
Nate Solder and Logan Mankins. Cleveland is in the Solder mold and can
hopefully play LT so they can move Isaiah Wynn to guard.
24. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (13-3)
Jordan Love-QB-Utah St Value -3
6-4/224
NFL Comp: Ryan Tannehill/Kyle Boller
Drw Brees won't be
around forever
25. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (10-6)
A.J.
Terrell-CB-Clemson Value -3
6-1/195/4.42
NFL Comp: Kyle Fuller/William Jackson
Corner is by far and
away the biggest need for Mike Zimmer and company.
26. MIAMI DOLPHINS
Jonathan
Taylor-RB-Wisconsin Value -15
5-10/226/4.39
NFL Comp: Ricky Williams/Mark Ingram
True workhorse back to
help out the Dolphins anemic offense
27. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (11-5)
AJ
Epenesa-DE-Iowa Value +2
|
||||||
6-5/275/34.5
NFL Comp: Carlos Dunlap/Preston Smith
|
They were 31st in
sacks, Bruce Irvin was a smart signing, but no one knows if Jadaveon Clowney
will be back
28. BALTIMORE RAVENS (14-2)
Kenneth Murray-LB-Oklahoma Value +4
6-2/241/4.52/38v/21r
NFL Comp: DeMeco Ryans/AJ Hawk
The Ravens love to
draft guys with high college production from big schools
29. TENNESSEE TITANS (9-7)
Trevon
Diggs-CB-Alabama Value +5
6-1/205
NFL Comp: Quinton Dunbar/Prince Amukamara
We could possibly see
the Diggs brothers play each other in the playoffs
30. GREEN BAY PACKERS (13-3)
Brandon Aiyuk-ASU-WR Value -7
6-0/205/4.5/40v
NFL Comparison: Hakeem Nicks/Nate Burleson
The Saints need another
WR to help Aaron Rodgers get back to the Super Bowl.
31. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (13-3)
Tee Higgins-WR-Clemson-Clemson Value +7
6-4/223
NFL Comp: Roy Williams/Herman Moore
Big WR to help out
Deebo Samuel
32. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (12-4)
Jeff Gladney-CB-TCU Value +2
5-10/191/4.48/17r/37.5
NFL Comp: Justin Coleman/Logan Ryan
The Chiefs only true
weakness has been in the secondary
SECOND ROUND
33. CINCINNATI BENGALS
(2-14)
Laviska
Shenault-WR-Colorado Value -3
6-2/225/4.58/17r
NFL Comparison: Anquan Boldin/David Givens
Both AJ Green and John Ross will be free agents. Joe Burrow needs weapons and Shenault is a Swiss army knife that can be used creatively by an offensive coordinator.
34. INDIANNAPOLIS COLTS
Denzel Mims-WR-Baylor Value -5
6-3/207/4.38/38.5
NFL Comparison: Devante Parker/Brandon Lloyd
The Colts need more help outside to ease pressure off of TY Hilton. Mims a long big play guy that can instantly help Philip Rivers.
35. DETROIT LIONS
Cesar Ruiz-C/G-Michigan Value +3
6-3/307/33.25/28r
NFL Comparison: LeCharles Bentley/Ben Jones
The Lions stay in state and get much needed help on the interior
36. NEW YORK GIANTS
Zach Baun-LB-Wisconsin
Value
+5
|
||||||
6-2/238/32.5/4.65/24r
NFL Comp: Kyle Van Noy/Jamie Collins
|
The Giants pass on Simmons in the first but still end up with a very athletic defender in the second round. Like former Wisconsin edge defender TJ Watt, Baun tested very well at the combine but only had one year of great production in college.
37. LOS ANGELES
CHARGERS
Kristian Fulton-CB-LSU
Value +5
6-0/197/4.46/35.5v
NFL Comparison: Darius Slay/Antrel Rolle
Fulton could go anywhere from the mid first to mid second. The Chargers make sense here as they may lose Desmond King in free agency next year and have also had injury issues in the secondary.
38. CAROLINA PANTHERS (5-11)
Jalen Reagor-WR-TCU Value -4
5-11/206/4.47/42v
NFL Comp: Robert Woods/Pierre Garcon
New OC Joe Brady wants more as many athletes as possible on the outside for his offense. Reagor is a big play guy that would work well in Brady’s system.
39. MIAMI DOLPHINS
Ross Blacklock-DL3T/1T-TCU Value +5
6-3/290/32.5
NFL Comp: Sheldon Richardson/Tommie Harris
TCU players go back to
back here. The Dolphins went all offensive in the first, so now it is time to
add some players in the trenches on defense.
40. HOUSTON TEXANS (10-6)
Michael Pittman-WR-USC Value -3
6-4/223/4.52
NFL Comparison: Brandon Marshall/Kenny Britt
The Texans have ZERO
receivers over 6 feet tall. Pittman is the redzone threat that Desahun Watson
would absolutely love.
41. CLEVELAND BROWNS
Justin
Madubuike-DL3T/1T-TXAM Value -4
6-3/293/33.5/31r/4.83
NFL
Comparison: Geno Atkins
Smaller but
ultra-quick DT that would pair perfectly with former Aggie Myles Garrett
along the Browns line.
42. JACKSONVILLE
JAGUARS
Jaylon Johnson-CB-Utah Value +7
6-0/193/4.5/36.5v
NFL Comp: Desmond Trufant/Eugene Wilson
Jacksonville has a
major need at corner. Johnson is the best one on the board. He has the
aggressive traits and athletic ability one looks for in a starting corner.
43. CHICAGO BEARS
Antoine Winfield
Jr.-S-Minnesota Value +5
5-9/203/4.45/35v
NFL Comparison: Bob Sanders/Donte Whitner
Special teams ace Deon Bush is the current starter opposite
Eddie Jackson. The Bears would be an ideal setting for the versatile and
physical DB from Minnesota.
44. INDIANNAPOLIS
COLTS (7-9)
Deandre Swift-RB-UGA
Value +15
5-8/212/4.48
NFL Comp: Alvin Kamara/Duke Johnson
The Colts just cannot pass up the value here, plus Marlon Mack may leave next off season. They made a mistake by passing on Kamara in the second round in 2017. They redeem themselves here.
45. TAMPA BAY
BUCCANEERS
Clyde
Edwards-Helaire-RB-LSU Value -3
5-7/207/4.6
NFL
Comparison: Maurice Jones Drew
Tampa gets a short
but very powerful back that can split time with Ronald Jones. CEH will go
from one winning program to playing with the best winner in NFL history if
this happens.
46. DENVER BRONCOS
Grant Delpit-S/DB-LSU
Value +6
6-2/213
NFL
Comparison: Morgan
Burnett/Harrison Smith
Delpit was a
projected top 10 pick earlier in the year. His stock fell but this could be a
major steal here. The Broncos may let Justin Simmons walk next year.
47. ATLANTA FALCONS
Julian Okwara-EDGE-Notre Dame
Value -4
6-4/252/34.5/27r
NFL Comp: Brian Orakpo
The Falcons still
get a quality pass rusher after passing on several in the first round.
48. NEW YORK JETS
Austin
Jackson-OT-USC Value +4
6-5/322/34.2/27r
NFL Comp: William Beatty
The Jets add some
protection for Sam Darnold after going with a WR in round 1. Jackson has left
tackle athletic ability but struggled in college vs good edge rushers.
49. PITTSBURGH
STEELERS (8-8)
JK Dobbins-RB-Ohio
St Value +2
5-10/205/23r
NFL Comp: DeAngelo Williams/Devonta Freeman
It seems the
Steelers always draft a RB high. This is a smart move as James Conner will be
a free agent and has battled injuries in his career.
50. CHICAGO BEARS (8-8)
Josh Uche-OLB/EDGE-Michigan Value -10
6-1/245/33.5
NFL
Comparison: Shaq Barrett
The Bears get more
help on defense. Uche can help both as a pass rusher and is athletic enough
to play as an off ball backer.
51. DALLAS COWBOYS (8-8)
Marlon Davidson-LDE/DL5T/3T-Auburn
Value +5
6-3/303/33.0/21r
NFL Comp: Tyson Alualu
Davidson is a solid
starting DE that with scheme versatility.
52. LOS ANGELES RAMS (8-8)
Lloyd Cushenberry
III-C/G-LSU Value -5
6-6/312/ 34.625
NFL
Comparison: Ryan Kelly
Jared Goff was under way too much pressure last year and the
results were bad for the once explosive offense. Cushenberry can come in and
compete to start at center or guard from day one.
53. PHILADELPHIA
EAGLES
KJ Hamler-WR-Penn
St Value +4
5-9/178/15r
NFL
Comparison: Tyler Lockett/Dexter
McCluster
The Eagles stay in
state and get the small but explosive WR from Penn St.
54. BUFFALO BILLS (10-6)
Chase Claypool -WR-Notre Dame
Value -9
6-4/238/4.42/40.5v/19r
NFL Comp: Vincent Jackson
The Bills are in the
market for a big WR to pair with newly added Stephon Diggs
55. BALTIMORE RAVENS
Kyle Dugger-S-Lenoir
Rhyne Value +5
6-1/217/4.49/42v/17r
NFL Comp: Kerry Rhodes/Clayton Geathers
Athletic freak big
safety that can learn many a lot from Earl Thomas. The Ravens go for the best
player on the board
56. MIAMI DOLPHINS
Ashtyn Davis-S-CAL Value
NEAR EVEN
6-1/202
NFL Comp: Jordan Poyer
Davis is not the
physical freak of Dugger but he has all of the athletic traits to be a
starting safety in the NFL.
57. LOS ANGELES RAMS (8-8)
Terrell Lewis-EDGE-Alabama
Value +5
6-5/262/33.8/37v
NFL Comp: Trent Murphy
Injury concerns
could cause a drop for Lewis, but this is good value for the Rams that need
help on the edge.
58. MINNESOTA
VIKINGS
Isaiah Wilson-RT/G-UGA
Value -3
6-6/350/35.5/26r
NFL Comp: Kelechi Osemele
The Vikings have a
history of drafting GINORMOUS offensive lineman going back to Bryant McKinnie
and Phil Loadholt. Wilson can fit as a guard or right tackle.
59. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
(11-5)
Cole Kmet-TE-Notre Dame
Value +6
6-6/262/4.7/37v
NFL Comp: Kyle Rudolph/Jason Witten
Greg Olsen maybe
will give Seattle one great year if they are lucky. Kmet provides value as
both a blocker and pass catcher. Seattle may even consider him in the first
round.
60. BALTIMORE RAVENS
Jalen Hurts-QB-Oklahoma Value -11
6-1/222/4.59
NFL Comp: Tyrod Taylor/Tim Tebow
Makes too much
sense, Lamar Jackson needs and athletic backup. Plus they can use him similar
to how the Saints used Taysom Hill last year.
61. TENNESSEE TITANS
Neville
Gallimore-DL1T-Oklahoma Value +5
6-2/304/32.75/24r/4.79
NFL Comp: Ziggy Hood
Gallimore and
Jeffrey Simmons give the Titans a great young DT duo for many years.
62. GREEN BAY PACKERS (13-3)
Noah Igbinoghene-CB-Auburn
Value -2
5-10/198/4.48/37v/15r
NFL Comp: Adoree Jackson
Noah is moving up boards
and could go much higher but if he’s still there at #62, the Packers should
take the athletic corner.
63. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
(12-4)
Jordan
Elliott-DL1T3T-Missouri Value +5
6-4/302/32.5/24r
NFL
Comparison: Kewann Short/Devon
Still
The Chiefs go best
player available and have some insurance in case Chris Jones leaves.
64. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Robert Hunt-G/RT- Louisiana
Value -15
6-5/323/33.5
NFL Comp: Rodger Saffold
Seattle clearly need
to use a high pick on the offensive line
