2015 NBA DRAFT: MOCK 1.0 with other Mock comparison

This is my first NBA Mock Draft of 2015, I list five of the best Mock Draft sites to compare with my own

FIRST ROUND

1. MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
KARL ANTHONY TOWNS-C-UK
7-0/248/19 years old
NBA Comparison: Marc Gasol/Rasheed Wallace
Minnesota looks to be all in on Towns. He's a versatile big man that can defend and shoot. He will have an incredible opportunity to learn under NBA legend Kevin Garnett next year. With Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Ricky Rubio, Minnesota has a nice young trio to build around

NBADraft.net: Towns

2. LOS ANGELES LAKERS
DEANGELO RUSSELL-PG/CG-OHIO ST.
6-5/193/19
NBA  Comparison: bigger Mike Conley/Manu Ginobili
The Lakers have a tough decision between Russell and big men Jahlil Okafor or Kristpas Prozingis. While talented big men are tough to find, Russell is the smart and safe choice here. He has the prototypical size and skill set for the modern NBA guard. Okafor is a nice low post scorer but remember they drafted a low post scorer last year in Julius Randle. The smart choice is to take Russell at #2 and then go after a center in free agency like DeAndre Jordan or Brook Lopez.

WF: Okafor
NDR: Okafor

3. PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
JAHLIL OKAFOR-C-DUKE
6-11/270/19
NBA Comparison: Al Jefferson/DeMarcus Cousins
Okafor's offensive skill set fits perfectly next to big man Nerlens Noel. Okafor is a back to the basket low post scorer that should make an instant impact as a scorer. With Joel Embiid having another injury set back, it makes sense for the 76ers to take another big man to help Noel. Kristpas Porgingas would make an interesting pick here as well.

NBADraft.net: Kristpas Porzingis

SI: Russell
WF: Russell
NDR: Russell

4. NEW YORK KNICKS
KRISTPAS PORZINGIS-F/C-LATVIA
7-0/220/19
NBA Comparison: Andrei Kirilenko/Pau Gasol
Porzingis has the ability to stretch a defense and is an athletic shot blocker on the defensive end. He can fit perfectly in the triangle offense and will remind Knicks President Phil Jackson of a young Pau Gasol.

NBADraft.net: Okafor
DEx: Russell
SI: Porzingis
WF: Emmanuel Mudiay
NDR: Porzingis

5. ORLANDO MAGIC
WILLIE CAULEY STEIN-C-UK
7-0/242/22
NBA Comparison: Tyson Chandler/Tristan Thompson
The Magic finished 25th in rebounding and 24th in defensive rating last year. They get the rim protector and defensive presence they need in WCS. He can come in and start at center and allow the Magic to move Nic Vucevic to the four, where he will be a matchup problem against most other power forwards.

NBADraft.net: Mudiay

SI: Justise Winslow
WF: Porzingis
NDR: Justise Winslow

6. SACRAMENTO KINGS

EMMANEUL MUDIAY-PG-CONGO/USA
6-5/200/19
NBA Comparison: Rajon Rondo/John Wall
Coach George Karl will jump at the opportunity to get an athletic PG to run run his uptempo system. Incumbent starter Darren Collison is solid, so they won't need to rush his development. Mudiay should start his career with a role similar to Dennis Schroder in Atlanta.

NBADraft.net: Mario Hezonja

WF: Cauley-Stein
NDR: Mudiay

7. DENVER NUGGETS
JUSTISE WINSLOW-SF-DUKE
6-77/222/19
NBA Comparison: Jalen Rose/Jimmy Butler
The Nuggets are in a great spot to draft a good wing at #7. Winslow gets the slight nod over Hezonja here. Both players are good offensive players that can become 16+ ppg scorers eventually, but Winslow separates himself with his defensive ability.

SI: Hezonja
WF: Winslow
NDR: Hezonja

8. DETROIT PISTONS
MARIO HEZONJA-SF-CROATIA
6-8/200/20
NBA Comparison: Khris Middleton/Mike Miller
It looks as though the Pistons will take the best SF on the board here. Hezonja, Winslow and Stanley Johnson are all options here. They recently acquired Ersan Ilyasova from Milwaukee. Ilyasova should start at the four and Andre Drummond is locked in at their starting center. Coach Stan Van Gundy wants more shooters on the outside.

NBADraft.net: Trey Lyles
DEx: Winslow
SI: Devin Booker
WF: Hezonja
NDR: Cauley-Stein

9. CHARLOTTE HORNETS
DEVIN BOOKER-SG-UK
6-6/206/19
NBA Comparison: Danny Green/Aaron Afflalo
The Bobcats were DEAD LAST in 3 point percentage last year and were 29th in field goal percentage. Translation, they need shooters. Booker is considered by many to be the best shooter in this draft. Some scouts have compared him to Klay Thompson but that seems a little too optimistic. People forget that Thompson was a 21ppg scorer in college. Booker has the ability to be a good starting two similar to Green and Afflalo.

NBADraft.net: Cauley-Stein
DEx: Booker
SI: Frank Kaminsky
WF: Myles Turner
NDR: Stanley Johnson

10. MIAMI HEAT
STANLEY JOHNSON-SF-ARIZONA
6-7/242/19
NBA Comparison: Ron Artest/Draymond Green
Johnson can give the Heat a SF that can replace Luol Deng after next season. He has a unique skill set and already has a NBA body at such a young age. Pat Riley loves defense and Johnson has the skills to become an all-defensive team player early in his career. In the right situation, he could become the best player in this entire draft class.

NBADraft.net: Johnson
DEx: Johnson
SI:  Johnson
WF: Johnson
NDR: Lyles

11. INDIANA PACERS
TREY LYLES-PF-UK
6-10/241/19
NBA Comparison: Carlos Boozer/David West
Lyles is an Indianapolis native. He has a nice inside/outside skill set and can become the eventual successor to David West at power forward. Many also suspect the Pacers will draft point guard Cameron Payne. Drafting Payne will add depth to a slim back court in Indy.

NBADraft.net: Cameron Payne
DEx: Myles Turner
SI:  Cameron Payne
WF: Cameron Payne
NDR: Booker

12. UTAH JAZZ
FRANK KAMINSKY-F/C-WISCONSIN
7-1/231/22
NBA Comparison: Channing Frye/Kelly Olynyk
The Jazz have one of the best shot blockers in the league in Rudy Gobert. They also have a good staring power forward in Derrick Favors. They need someone in their front court that can hit shots and stretch a defense. Kaminsky can give the Jazz the one thing they lack up front.

NBADraft.net: Sam Dekker
DEx: Kaminsky
SI:  Cauley-Stein
WF: Kaminsky
NDR: Kaminsky

13. PHOENIX SUNS
SAM DEKKER-SF-WISCONSIN
6-9/219/21
NBA Comparison: Chandler Parsons/Keith Van Horn
The Suns have a nice young core with Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, Markieff Morris and Alex Len. The Suns have defensive specialist PJ Tucker starting at small forward currently. Dekker can come in and compete for the starting spot at small forward and provide more offensive fire power on the wing.

NBADraft.net: Myles Turner
DEx: Lyles
SI:  Myles Turner
WF: Kelly Oubre
NDR: Myles Turner

14. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
CAMERON PAYNE-PG-MURRAY ST.
6-2/183/21
NBA Comparison: Goran Dragic/Nick Van Exel
The Thunder traded Reggie Jackson to Detroit. They now need a backup PG to run the second unit and to help limit Russell Westbrook from playing too many minutes. Payne is a crafty lefty that has seen his stock rise during the draft process. It looks like he's separated himself from Tyus Jones and Jerian Grant as the #3 PG in this draft class.

NBADraft.net: Booker
DEx: Payne
SI:  Lyles
WF: Tyus Jones
NDR: Payne

15. ATLANTA HAWKS
BOBBY PORTIS-PF-ARKANSAS
6-10/246/20
NBA Comparison: Greg Monroe/Terrance Jones
There's a good chance the Hawks lose Paul Millsap in free agency this year. If they have their choice of Portis and Myles Turner, my feeling is that they will draft the more NBA ready player in Portis. Portis won SEC player of the year, beating out all of the studs from Kentucky.

NBADraft.net: Portis
DEx: Kelly Oubre
SI:  Portis
WF: Lyles
NDR: Dekker

16. BOSTON CELTICS
MYLES TURNER-C/F-TEXAS
6-11/239/19
NBA Comparison: Ed Davis/Derrick Favors
The Celtics will likely go with the best overall player here. Turner is the best player available and can provide depth to a very average front court. The Celtics will try very hard this summer to sign a stud big man like LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love or Greg Monroe. If that happens then they can afford to bring Turner along slowly.

NBADraft.net: Kelly Oubre
DEx: Dekker
SI:  Kevon Looney
WF: Dekker
NDR: Oubre

17. MILWAUKEE BUCKS
JERIAN GRANT-PG-NOTRE DAME
6-4/198/22
NBA Comparison: Jrue Holiday/Reggie Jackson
With Portis, Turner and Lyles off the board, the Bucks should look to add a point guard that can score and create. Grant looks like a great point guard to run a second unit. He is NBA ready and given Michael Carter Williams' injury history, the Bucks would be smart to take Grant here and then address the front court in free agency.

NBADraft.net: Montrezl Harrell
DEx: Portis
SI:  RJ Hunter
WF: Booker
NDR: Portis

18. HOUSTON ROCKETS
TYUS JONES-PG-DUKE
6-2/184/19
NBA Comparison: Steve Blake/Jordan Farmar
Jones was the hero of the National title game where he showed that he's a winner and an ultimate competitor. He may never be a star, but he fits what the Rockets need at PG. The Rockets need a solid player at the point that will play within himself and help their superstar James Harden.

NBADraft.net: Jones
DEx: Jones
SI:  Grant
WF: Portis
NDR: Jones

19. WASHINGTON WIZARDS
KEVON LOONEY-CF-UCLA
6-9/222/19
NBA Comparison: Tobias Harris/Dorell Wright
Nene turns 33 this year and an upgrade at power forward is needed. Looney is small for a power forward but the Wizards played very well when they went small and used Paul Pierce at the four. Looney is relentless on the glass and has the ability to defend most fours in the Eastern conference.

NBADraft.net: Kaminsky
DEx: Grant
SI:  Montrezl Harrell
WF: Looney
NDR: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

20. TORONTO RAPTORS
MONTREZL HARRELL-PF-LOUISVILLE
6-8/253/21
NBA Comparison: JJ Hickson/Kenneth Faried
Both Amir Johnson and Tyler Hansborough are free agents. Harrell will provide them with insurance at the four. He is an absolute beast on the glass and finishing at the rim.

NBADraft.net: Rondae-Hollis Jefferson
DEx: Looney
SI:  Kelly Oubre
WF: Harrell
NDR: Chris McCullough

21. DALLAS MAVERICKS
KELLY OUBRE-SF-KANSAS
6-7/203/19
NBA Comparison: Wesley Johnson/Gerald Green
Oubre failed to meet high/unrealistic expectations at Kansas last year. He was supposed to fill Andrew Wiggins' shoes yet he struggled getting playing time and ended up averaging less than 10ppg last year. Oubre is a raw talent with great length and athletic ability. He is a long term prospect that will need a few years to develop.

NBADraft.net: Terry Rozier
DEx: RJ Hunter
SI:  Tyus Jones
WF: Rondae Hollis Jefferson
NDR: Delon Wright

22. CHICAGO BULLS
DELON WRIGHT-PG-UTAH
6-6/181/23
NBA Comparison: Shaun Livingston/Alexey Shved
Derrick Rose has had major injury concerns and Aaron Brooks is a free agent. Wright can provide the Bulls with a NBA ready player with good length, passing ability and size at point guard

NBADraft.net: Rashad Vaughn
DEx: Rondae Hollis Jefferson
SI:  Wright
WF: Rashad Vaughn
NDR: Looney

23. PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS
JUSTIN ANDERSON-SF-VIRGINIA
6-6/231/21
NBA Comparison: PJ Tucker/Xavier Henry
Portland needs depth on the wings, Anderson is a good defender and spot up shooter. He has a NBA body and the ability to guard both twos and threes.

NBADraft.net: Looney
DEx: Rashad Vaughn
SI:  Dekker
WF: Anderson
NDR: Harrell

24. CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
RONDAE HOLLIS JEFFERSON-SF-ARIZONA
6-7/211/20
NBA Comparison: Trevor Ariza/Bruce Bowen
The Cavs are in the market for wing defenders. Iman Shumpert is a free agent and LeBron James is spending too much energy on defense always guarding the opponent's best player. Hollis-Jefferson lacks the size of his college teammate Stanley Johnson, but he is every bit the lock down defender.

NBADraft.net: Grant
DEx: Harrell
SI:  Anderson
WF: RJ Hunter
NDR: Grant

25. MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
RASHAD VAUGHN-SG-UNLV
6-5/198/18
NBA Comparison: CJ Miles/JR Smith
Memphis needs scoring on the wings. Like JR Smith and CJ Miles, Vaughn can be erratic and take bad shots. Smith and Miles both entered the league at 18 years old like Vaughn and eventually became good role players.

NBADraft.net: Wright
DEx: Anderson
SI:  Vaughn
WF: Christian Wood
NDR: Anderson

26. SAN ANTONIO SPURS
RJ HUNTER-SG-GEORGIA ST.
6-6/186/21
NBA Comparison: Kevin Martin/Marco Belinelli
With both Danny Green and Marco Belinelli hitting free agency this summer, the Spurs would be wise to draft a shooting guard at #26. Hunter was a big scorer at a small school. He held his own in the NCAA tournament against better competition thus solidifying himself as a first round pick.

NBADraft.net: Guillermo Hernangomez
DEx: Wright
SI:  Cliff Alexander
WF: Grant
NDR: Guillermo Hernangomez

27. LOS ANGELES LAKERS
RAKEEM CHRSITMAS-C/F-SYRACUSE
6-10/243/23
NBA Comparison: Taj Gibson/Andrew Nicholson
I have the Lakers taking Russell at #2. If they go guard early, expect them to draft a big man at #27. Christmas has great length (7-3 wingspan) and is a solid low post defender and reounder.

NBADraft.net: Anderson
DEx: Anthony Brown
SI:  Hollis-Jefferson
WF: Wright
NDR: Hunter

28. BOSTON CELTICS
CEDI OSMAN-SF-TURKEY
6-8/194/20
NBA Comparison: Corey Brewer/Matt Barnes
With multiple first round picks and Boston wanting to have money for free agents, don't be surprised if the Celtics go the route of Euro stash with their later pick. Osman is a solid prospect that is know for his defensive hustle and athletic ability. Coach Brad Stevens loves high character hustle guys. Osman will need to get up to about 210 pounds before he is NBA ready so expect him to stay in Europe for a year or two.

NBADraft.net: Christian Wood
DEx: Chris McCullough
SI:  Chris McCullough
WF: Christmas
NDR: Terry Rozier

29. BROOKLYN NETS
TERRY ROZIER-PG-LOUISVILLE
6-2/190/21
NBA Comparison: Eric Bledsoe/George Hill
The Nets need youth at the guard spots as Deron Williams and Jarrett Jack are both 31 years old. Rozier is more of a scoring guard with great athleticism (just like Bledsoe). If he has time to develop, he can turn into a good starting point guard.

NBADraft.net: Norman Powell
DEx: Rozier
SI:  Rozier
WF: Jarell Martin
NDR: Vaughn

30. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS
JARELL MARTIN-PF-LSU
6-9/240/21
NBA Comparison: Brandon Bass/Patrick Patterson
The Warriors seem to have everything but they could add a little toughness and depth to their front court as both David Lee and Andre Bogut are over 30 now.

NBADraft.net: RJ Hunter
DEx: Jonathan Holmes
SI:  Jordan Mickey
WF: Chris McCullough

  1. Hi Matt,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that we took a stab at grading the best NBA mock drafts this year and your site made the list.

Basically we gave one point for correctly predicting a player taken in the first round, then an additional two points for each player they matched to the correct team.

You can see the results here: http://www.boydsbets.com/best-nba-mock-drafts/

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

    Jimmy
