2014 NFL DRAFT: MOCK 1.0

FIRST ROUND

1. HOUSTON TEXANS-JADEVEON CLOWNEY-PR/DE/OLB-SOUTH CAROLINA
The Texans will likely draft the Clowney.  This is the smart move as Clowney and JJ Watt can make a pass rush duo as good as any in the NFL.  Clowney has drawn comparisons to former #1 Texans pick Mario Williams.  I think he has the chance to be another Robert Quinn.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 1, 33.65
NEEDS: QB, PR, ILB, RT

2. ST. LOUIS RAMS-SAMMY WATKINS-WR-CLEMSON
Many mocks have the Rams taking OT Greg Robinson out of Auburn.  The interesting thing is that the Rams don't need a LT they need a RT.  Jake Long is a solid LT.  What the Rams really could use is a play making WR like Watkins.  The Rams need offensive weapons to beat the great defensive teams in their division like Seattle, San Francisco and Arizona.  Watkins is that guy.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 2, 13, 44, 75
NEEDS: #1 WR, FS, RT, LCB

3. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS-KHALIL MACK-PR/OLB/LEO-BUFFALO
Mack is the perfect fit as the Leo in coach Gus Bradley's defense.  He is equally talented a both a pass rusher and a coverage LB.  He is the new age LB of the game today.  The Jags need a pass rusher in the worst way.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 3. 39, 70
NEEDS: PR, QB, RT, LG, #2 WR, Speed RB

4. CLEVELAND BROWNS-JOHNNY MANZIEL-QB-TEXAS A&M
Twice in the past eight years the Browns waited to take a QB with their second pick in the 1st round.  They traded back into the first round for Brady Quinn in 2007 and took Brandon Weeden in 2012.  Neither pick worked out well.  With Watkins off the board it makes sense for the Browns to take a gamble with Manziel.  New OC Kyle Shanahan knows how to work with a mobile QB as he worked with Robert Griffin III in Washington the past two seasons.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 4, 26, 35, 71, 83
NEEDS: QB, #2 CB, #2 WR, ILB, Speed RB

5. OAKLAND RAIDERS-GREG ROBINSON-OT-AUBURN
Oakland needs an upgrade at LT as Donald Penn is NOT the answer.  Robinson is still raw, but has great potential to become a franchise LT.  He's great at the point of attack, and has drawn comparisons to former Rams star Orlando Pace.  At #5 he would be a mini-steal.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 5, 36, 67
NEEDS: QB, LT, DT, #1 WR, FS, LG

6. ATLANTA FALCONS-JAKE MATTHEWS-OT-TEXAS A&M
The Falcons need a someone to protect franchise QB Matt Ryan and someone to open holes for the running game as well.  Matthews is a very versatile lineman that can play LT, RT and maybe even C.  A low risk pick for a team that is ready to contend again.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 6, 37, 68
NEEDS:  LT, PR-OLB, TE, C

7. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS-MIKE EVANS-WR-TEXAS A&M
Tampa could give new QB Josh McCown a big target that will remind him of Alshon Jeffery whom he had last year in Chicago.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 7, 38, 69
NEEDS: #2 WR, SLB, RG, QB

8. MINNESOTA VIKINGS-BLAKE BORTLES-QB-UCF
The Vikings need a franchise QB.  Bortles is still a work in progress.  He does have a nice combination of size and athletic ability of the modern NFL QB
Picks in first 3 rounds: 8, 40, 72, 96
NEEDS: QB, MLB, #WLB, LG, #3 WR, DE

 9. BUFFALO BILLS-ERIC EBRON-TE-UNC
The Bills can use a big, athletic TE to compliment last year's 1st round pick, QB EJ Manual
Picks in first 3 rounds: 9, 41, 73
NEEDS: RT, TE, Both S Spots, LG

10. DETROIT LIONS-HA HA CLINTON-DIX-DS-BAMA
The Lions have major problems on the back end.  In a division with the Packers and Bears, they need help guarding WR's.  Ha Ha isn't quite Earl Thomas, but he has an opportunity to become a Pro Bowl dual safety that can cover or play in the box.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 10, 45, 76
NEEDS:  DS, CB, LG, #3 WR

11. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (Projected Trade up with TEN for picks #30, #56, and #61)-ODELL BECKHAM JR.-WR-LSU
San Francisco trades up to get a WR that can stretch the field.  Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree are very good WRs but neither has the deep speed to blow the top off of a defense. Beckham Jr. has 4.38 speed and is also a good route runner with good hands.  The 49ers have 6 picks in the top 100, so a trade up is very likely.  Tennessee only has 6 total picks and no 3rd round pick so they may be looking to trade down for additional assests.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 30, 56, 61, 77, 94, 100
NEEDS:  Speed WR, Nickel Corner, PR Depth, NT, SS

12. NEW YORK GIANTS-AARON DONALD-DT-PITTSBURGH
The Giants can get the best player available AND fill a huge hole in the middle.  Donald can pair with DE Jason Pierre Paul to form a great pass rush duo.  Donald on the inside and JPP on the outside.  Donald also has great quickness and is good against the run
Picks in first 3 rounds: 19, 49, 81
NEEDS: DT, WLB, RT/G, RB, LDE

13. ST. LOUIS RAMS-TAYLOR LEWAN-OT-MICHIGAN
Lewan is a top 5 talent but off the field stuff has dropped his stock.  The Rams have shown they are willing to take a chance on a guy with character concern (CB-Janorris Jenkins in 2012 and LB-Alec Ogletree in 2013) if the value is right.  Lewan fills a need and provides great value.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 2, 13, 44, 75
NEEDS: #1 WR, FS, RT, LCB

14. CHICAGO BEARS-CALVIN PRYOR-DS-LOUISVILLE
The Bears need help at safety.  They can wait to grab a corner in the 2nd or 3rd as their is great depth in the corner class this year.  However it will be very had to find a hard-hitting safety like Pryor later in the draft.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 14, 51, 82
NEEDS: DS, DT-3T, CB

15. PITTSBURGH STEELERS-JUSTIN GILBERT-CB-OK ST.
A big athletic corner to guard AJ Green and Josh Gordon twice a year.  Incumbent CB Ike Taylor needs help.
Picks in first round: 15, 46, 97
NEEDS: CB, Big WR, young TE, ILB, DE

16. DALLAS COWBOYS-ANTHONY BARR-PR/DE/OLB-UCLA
The Cowboys need a pass rusher to fill the void left by the loss of DeMarcus Ware.  Barr is raw, but may develop into a stud pass rusher one day.  He has the size and length to be a 4-3 end or a 3-4 OLB.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 16, 47, 78
NEEDS: DT-3T, PR-DE, WLB, SS

17. BALTIMORE RAVENS-ZACH MARTIN-OT/G-NOTRE DAME
Martin would be a great choice as he can come in from day one and start at RT or G.  He would provide great help in reestablishing the running game in Baltimore.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 17, 48, 79, 99
NEEDS:  RT, DS, ILB, DE, CB, C/G Depth, #3 WR

18. NEW YORK JETS-MARQUISE LEE-WR-USC
The Jets need a big time pass catcher to compliment 2nd year QB Geno Smith.  Lee is a smooth route runner with great hands and solid deep speed. He comes from a big program and from Los Angeles so he won't be phased by the New York media and bight lights.  Lee has a chance to become everything Jets fans hoped Santonio Holmes would be.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 18, 49, 80
NEEDS: #1 WR, CB, PR-OLB, TE, RG, FS

19 MIAMI DOLPHINS-CJ MOSLEY-ILB-BAMA
They Dolphins need a MLB that can actually, what's the word I'm looking for?  Oh yeah, TACKLE.  If they draft Mosley, their problems will be solved and they can move last year's disappointing free agant Dannelle Ellerbe to weakside LB.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 19, 50, 81
NEEDS:  RT, MLB, WLB, RG, Power RB, DB Depth

20. ARIZONA CARDINALS-RA'SHADE HAGEMAN-DT/DE-MINNESOTA
The Cards have done a good job in recent drafts adding young pieces to help them.  Hageman is a boom/bust prospect that can become the eventual replacement for Darnett Dockett.  With his size and length he can become a great 5 technique DE in the Cards 3-4 defense
Picks in first 3 rounds: 20, 52, 84
NEEDS: PR-OLB, SS, 3-4 DE, ILB, backup QB

21. GREEN BAY PACKERS-RYAN SHAZIER-WLB/ILB-OHIO ST.
The Pack get an ultra athletic LB that can play all over the field.  He would be a great compliment inside to AJ Hawk.  Shazier also has the versatility to rush the passer and cover TE's.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 21, 53, 85, 98
NEEDS: ILB, FS, TE, C, #3 WR

22. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES-KYLE FULLER-CB-VIRGINIA TECH
It seems most mocks have the Eagles taking a big WR.  That would be a nice luxury pick.  But the Eagles MUST upgrade their horrible secondary first.  Fuller is a big time corner with great length and ball skills.  In a division with Dez Bryant, Victor Cruz, Pierre Garcon and former Eagle Desean Jackson, having a shut down corner is a must.  Fill a key need here and then wait until the 2nd round to draft a big WR.  Their will be plenty available.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 22, 54, 86
NEEDS:  CB, SS, Young PR, Big WR, OL Depth

23. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS-BRANDIN COOKS-WR-OREGON ST.
What a difference a year makes!  KC went from picking 1st last year to the playoffs this year.  The Chiefs still need a lot of help at WR.  Cooks would be the perfect target for weak armed QB Alex Smith.  Cooks has great ability to make plays in space.  He will be an instant upgrade over Donnie Avery.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 23, 87
NEEDS: WR, RG, FS, #3 CB 3-4 DE Depth

24. CINCINNATI BENGALS-DARQUEZE DENNARD-CB-MICHIGAN ST.
The Bengals biggest need is corner and they should SPRINT to the podium if Dennard, Gilbert or Fuller is still available at #24.  Dennards lack of deep speed may drop him into the mid 20's.  The Bengals would love this scenario.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 24, 55, 88
NEEDS:  CB, RDE, SLB, C/G Depth, #3 WR

25. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS-LOUIS NIX-NT/DT-NOTRE DAME
The Chargers need a starting NT to anchor their 3-4 defense.  Nix would be put in a great situation to succeed with great talent right behind him in ILB Donald Butler, All-Pro S Eric Weddle and we can't forget his former college teammate ILB Manti Te'o.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 25, 57, 89
NEEDS:  CB, NT, ILB Depth, C/G Depth, Young TE, SS

26. CLEVELAND BROWNS-JASON VERRETT-CB-TCU
The Browns need a #2 corner to compliment star lock down corner Joe Haden.  Like Haden, Verrett is a little short but makes up for it with great physical play and athletic ability.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 4, 26, 35, 71, 83
NEEDS: QB, #2 CB, #2 WR, ILB, Speed RB

27. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS-DEE FORD-PR/OLB-AUBURN
Last year the Saints passed on pass rusher Jarvis Jones in order to take S-Kenny Vaccaro,  This year they can add a pass rusher in Ford that can have an immediate impact on 3rd downs in defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's 3-4 defense.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 27, 58, 91
NEEDS: PR-OLB, ILB, C, #2 WR

28. CAROLINA PANTHERS-MORGAN MOSES-OT-VIRGINIA
Like the Eagles, it makes more sense for the Panthers to wait to take a #1 WR given the depth of this class.  They cannot afford to wait on an OT that will protect QB Cam Newton.  Moses is a safe/solid choice here.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 28, 60, 92
NEEDS: LT, #1 WR, CB

29. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (projected trade up with NE for picks #39 and #70-TEDDY BRIDGEWATER-QB-LOUISVILLE
It just wouldn't be a NFL Draft if the Patriots didn't trade down and their wasn't a top 10 QB that slipped to the end of the 1st.  It makes too much sense for both teams, so it probably won't happen.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 3. 39, 70
NEEDS: PR, QB, RT, LG, #2 WR, Speed RB

30. TENNESSEE TITANS (Trade down with SF)-DERRICK CARR-QB-FRESNO ST.
At #11 Carr is a reach.  At #30 Carr makes a lot of sense.  Incumbent QB Jake Locker's days are numbered in Tennessee.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 11, 42
NEEDS:  CB, Speed RB, PR-OLB, QB

31. DENVER BRONCOS-BRADLEY ROBY-CB-OHIO ST.
Good corner that has slipped due to character concerns and inconsistent play.  The Broncos will take him here as it provides solid value for their biggest need.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 31, 63, 95
NEEDS:  CB, FS, MLB,  Speed RB, #3 WR, DL Depth

32. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS-TIMMY JERNIGAN-DT-FSU
Seattle is smart enough to take the best player in the board that can immediately help them defend the title.  Jernigan can be a rotational DT at first, and then become the eventual replacement for red Bryant Picks in first 3 rounds: 32, 64
NEEDS:  WR, RT, DT, RG

SECOND ROUND

33. HOUSTON TEXANS-TOM SAVAGE-QB-PITTSBURGH
The Texans wait till the 2nd to get their QB of the future.  They hope this big QB with a big arm can turn into the next Joe Flacco.
NEEDS: QB, PR, ILB, RT

34. PITTSBURGH STEELERS-(projected Trade up with WAS for picks #46, #97 and #174-KELVIN BENJAMIN-WR-FSU
A big raw target for Big Ben and a great red zone threat that can compliment WR Antonio Brown.  The Steelers are rumored to like Benjamin.  If he slips out of the 1st, the Steelers may trade up to get him.
NEEDS: CB, Big WR, young TE, ILB, DE

35. CLEVELAND BROWNS-CARLOS HYDE-RB-OHIO ST
The Browns need a RB to compliment a new QB.  Hyde is a power back that can move the chains.
NEEDS: QB, #2 CB, #2 WR, ILB, Speed RB

36. OAKLAND RAIDERS-CODY LATIMER-WR-INDIANA
Latimer is big (6-3/215) and fast (4.44 speed) that can come in and help the passing game.  Right now Rod Streater and free agent pickup James Jones are the Raiders top two WR's.  New QB Matt Schaub needs weapons on the outside
NEEDS: QB, LT, DT, #1 WR, FS, LG

37. ATLANTA FALCONS-DEMARCUS LAWRENCE-PR/OLB-BOISE
The Falcons need a pass rusher and Lawrence provides solid value here.  If they draft Lawrence and Matthews, they will add two guys that can start right away.  Atlanta looks like they are moving to a 3-4 this year so Lawrence would be a great fit as an OLB.

38. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS-JIMMY GAROPPOLO-QB-EASTERN ILLINOIS
Tampa needs a young QB to develop behind Josh McCown.

39. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (trade DOWN with JAX)-STEPHON TUITT-DE/DT-NOTRE DAME
The Patriots trade down and get a guy that can compliment the aging yet still productive Vince Wilfork.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 19, 62, 93
NEEDS: DL, C/G, TE

40. MINNESOTA VIKINGS-KONY EALY-PR/DE-MISSOURI
The Vikings add a solid pass rusher that has a chance to go in the 1st round.  Ealy is a steal here.  They could use someone to replace Jared Allen
NEEDS: QB, MLB, #WLB, LG, #3 WR, DE

41. BUFFALO BILLS-JOEL BITONIO-OT/G-NEVADA
The Bills add another piece to help EJ Manual
Picks in first 3 rounds: 9, 41, 73
NEEDS: RT, TE, Both S Spots, LG

42. TENNESSEE TITANS-TRE MASON-RB-AUBURN
The dude was the best RB in the nation last year.  He made the best defenses in the SEC look average and torched FSU in the title game as well.  He can start from day one and make Titans fans forget about the inconsistent Chris Johnson.
NEEDS:  CB, Speed RB, PR-OLB, QB

43. NEW YORK GIANTS-XAVIER SU'A FILO-OG-UCLA
Rather than reach on an OT, it would be smarter for the G-Men to take the best guard in the draft keep last year's 1st round pick, Justin Pugh on the outside at OT.
NEEDS: DT, WLB, RT/G, RB, LDE

44. ST. LOUIS RAMS-DEONE BUCHANON-DS-WASHINGTON ST.

Buchanon is a solid safety that coach Jeff Fisher would love to have.  He brings great size and length to the position
NEEDS: #1 WR, FS, RT, LCB

45. DETROIT LIONS-WESTON RICHBURG-C/G-COLORADO ST.
The Lions current center, Dominic Raiola is 35 years old.  Richburg can start at LG right away and replace Raiola in the next 2-3 years
NEEDS:  DS, CB, LG, #3 WR

46. WASHINGTON REDSKINS (trade DOWN w/PIT)-JEREMIAH ATTAOUCHU-PR/OLB-GEORGIA TECH
With only 6 picks in the draft and no 1st rounder it makes sense for the Redskins to trade down.  Pass rusher may not be the biggest need for them, but Attauochu is too athletic and talented to pass up here especially with pass rusher Brian Orakpo's injury history.
Picks in first 3 rounds: 34, 66
NEEDS:  SS, RT/G, CB, ILB, #3 PR

47. DALLAS COWBOYS-DOMINIQUE EASLEY-DT-FLORIDA
The Cowboys will be very lucky if Easley slips here.  He would be the perfect 3T-DT in Dallas' Tampa 2 defense.  Injuries have dropped him into the second round.
NEEDS: DT-3T, PR-DE, WLB, SS

48. BALTIMORE RAVENS-KYLE VON NOY-OLB/PR-BYU
Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome will always looks to get defensive play makers early in the draft.  Von Noy has the size and versatility to play both inside and outside in the Raven's 3-4 defense.
NEEDS:  RT, DS, ILB, DE, CB, C/G Depth, #3 WR

49. NEW YORK JETS-KEITH McGILL-CB-UTAH
McGill is a slight reach here, but coach Rex Ryan wants and physical press corner.  McGill has great size (6-3/211) to go along with incredible athletic ability (4.44 speed and a 39 inch vert)
NEEDS: #1 WR, CB, PR-OLB, TE, RG, FS

50. MIAMI DOLPHINS-JaWUAN JAMES-OT-TENNESSEE
They Dolphins need a a ton of help on the right side of the line.  James is a NFL ready RT that started nearly every game since his Freshman year of college.
NEEDS:  RT, MLB, WLB, RG, Power RB, DB Depth

51. CHICAGO BEARS-WILL SUTTON-DT-ARIZONA ST.
The Bears helped the secondary in round 1, now it's time to get some help on the D-Line.
NEEDS: DS, DT-3T, CB

52. ARIZONA CARDINALS-JIMMY WARD-SS-NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The Cards get a play making strong safety that will compliment the corner trio of Patrick Peterson, Antonio Cromartie and Tyrann Mathiau.
NEEDS: PR-OLB, SS, 3-4 DE, ILB, backup QB

53. GREEN BAY PACKERS-JACE AMARO-TE-TEXAS TECH
The Pack need a big TE to help Rodgers and company.  They will hope Amaro can have the same instant impact that last year's 2nd round pick, Eddie Lacy had.
NEEDS: ILB, FS, TE, C, #3 WR

54. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES-ALLEN ROBINSON-WR-PENN ST.
Chip Kelly wants a big WR, and Robinson is just that at 6-3/220.  He has drawn comparisons to Anquan Boldin with his ability to make catches while being covered.
NEEDS:  CB, SS, Young PR, Big WR, OL Depth

55. CINCINNATI BENGALS-SCOTT CRIGHTON-DE/PR-OREGON ST.
The Bengals get a replacement for Micheal Johnson who departed in free agency.
NEEDS:  CB, RDE, SLB, C/G Depth, #3 WR

NEEDS:  CB, Speed RB, PR-OLB, QB

57. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS-LAMARCUS JOYER-CB/SS-FSU
The Chargers need someone to help Eric Weddle in the secondary.  Joyner is small, but he is a flat out play maker.  San Diego needs guys that can matchup with Denver's receiving core.
NEEDS:  CB, NT, ILB Depth, C/G Depth, Young TE, SS

58. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS-DEVANTE ADAMS-WR-FRESNO ST.
The Saints get a solid WR that can make big plays down field.

60. CAROLINA PANTHERS-DONTE MONCRIEF-WR-OLE MISS

NEEDS: LT, #1 WR, CB

61. TENNESSEE TITANS (Trade down with SF)-PIERRE DESIR-CB-LINDENWOOD
The Titans need a CB.  I see someone taking a chance on the small school star in the 2nd round.  Desir looked great in the Senior Bowl against large school talent.
NEEDS:  CB, Speed RB, PR-OLB, QB

62. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOT-AUSTIN SEFERIAN JENKINS-TE WASHINGTON
The Patriots clearly missed Aaron Hernandez last year.  ASJ can give the Pats the double TE looks they want.
NEEDS: DL, C/G, TE

63. DENVER BRONCOS-BISHOP SANKEY-RB-WASHINGTON
What a great name.  Bishop can give Denver a change of pace back to compliment Monte Ball.
NEEDS:  CB, FS, MLB,  Speed RB, #3 WR, DL Depth

64. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS-JORDAN MATTHEWS-WR-VANDY
Seattle gets a big target for Russell Wilson.  Matthews was ultra productive in college, setting many SEC career receiving records.
