MY NFL TOP 100 PLAYERS LIST: 1-5

I have no shame in saying that I have a huge QB bias.  This is a QB driven league.  The QB is and always will be the most important player on the field.  Having a great signal caller is the difference between being a Super Bowl contender and an average team.  As rookie QB's Andrew Luck, RG III and Russell Wilson proved, it is also the difference between a playoff team and a rebuilding team.

My top four players are all superstar Super Bowl winning QB's that put up monster numbers as well.  Adrian Peterson who had a MONSTER SEASON is still only #4 on my list.  Yes he's an incredible player.  But no GM would take him THIS YEAR over the top three QB's.  Peterson and Drew Brees are a coin flip

1. AARON RODGERS-GREEN BAY PACKERS-QB #1

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are both first ballot Hall of Fame QB's.  Both are arguably top 5 QB's in NFL history.   Brady and Manning set the standard for the QB position for the first past of this century.  However Aaron Rodgers represents the new age QB of this new generation.  He has all five tools that one could desire at QB.  Great accuracy, great deep ball, great leader, great in pre-snap reads, and unlike Brady and Manning, Rodgers has great running ability.  Rodgers is the best QB now and has become the QB prototype of the future.  In the past, big guys with rocket arms and zero mobility like Dan Marino, Drew Bledsoe and Manning were the norm.  In today's NFL, young QB's still need to be big and have a strong arm.  But now it is equally important to be accurate and have good mobility both in and out of the pocket.  Manning and Brady are LEGENDS but they are the end of a dying breed.

2. TOM BRADY-NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS-QB #2

Last year he was my #1 player.  Now I have realized that while Brady is still great, this is now officially Rodgers era.  Rodgers is the LeBron, while Brady is the Kobe.  Brady continues to put up insane stats: 4th in yardage, 4th in TD's  and 6th in QB rating.  The Patriots have won an average of 13 games the past three years despite having one of the worst defenses in the NFL.  As much as I love Rodgers, if the game is on the line in the last two minutes, I still think I would take Brady.

3. PEYTON MANNING-DENVER BRONCOS-QB #3

Manning quickly shrugged off any critics that thought his career may have been over after a neck injury that caused him to miss all of 2011.  Manning led the Broncos to a 13-3 record and instantly turned the likes of Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker into household names.  Manning was 2nd in QB rating and 3rd in TD's with 37.  So why are Brady and Rodgers ahead of him?  When the game is on the line, I just don't trust Manning.  I won't say that he 'choked' against the Ravens last year, (Rahim Moore CHOKED) but he didn't step up the way superstars should given the situation.  The Manning vs. Brady debate will carry on in 2013 as both the Broncos and Patriots have Super Bowl ambitions.  I hope we get to see one more Brady vs. Manning playoff show down before these two legends call it quits.

4. ADRIAN PETERSON-MINNESOTA VIKINGS-RB #1

Is this guy even human?  Who else can come back from major knee surgery to lead the NFL in rushing with 2,097 yards.  Peterson was only 9 yards shy of Eric Dickerson's all time single season rushing record set in 1984.  Peterson's accomplishments were enough to win him the MVP award in 2012.  I am very curious to see where he will be voted on the NFL Network players top 100 list.  I wouldn't be surprised if he went #1, but do to the reasons I explained in the opening, he is only #4 on my list.  If he rushes for his goal of 2,500 yards http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9238587/adrian-peterson-minnesota-vikings-sets-sights-2500-yards, then he will easily be #1 on my list.

5. DREW BREES-NEW ORLEANS SAINTS-QB #4

Brees led the league in both TD's and yardage the past two seasons.  He is right there with the top 3 QB's in my mind.  The Saints 7-9 season last year had more to do with all the distractions of "Bounty Gate" than Brees' play.  Next year with head coach Sean Payton back, the Saints are expected to be a 10+ win team.  Brees is the only QB in NFL history with THREE 5,000 yard seasons.  Legends Tom Brady and Dan Marino only have one, while Manning had never had a 5,000 yard season.  Brees makes it look routine.  Brees' stats along with his Super Bowl XLIV victory over Manning guarantee him a spot in the Hall of Fame when he retires.
