All-star snubs and thoughts

The 2009 NBA all-star team was announced yesterday and as expected there were some guys who did not really deserve to be selected and there were some guys who got snubbed. In my opinion the biggest snubs were Al Jefferson-C/F-MIN (22.7ppg, 10.5rpg), Kevin Durant-SF-OKC (24.8ppg, 6.6rpg) is 6th in the league in scoring, Andre Igoudala-SF-PHL (17.7ppg, 6.2rpg, 5.3apg), and Carmelo Anthony-SF-DEN (21.1ppg, 73rpg) but has missed 15 games due to injury. To me this is saying that these guys are not one of the top 24 players in the NBA, when all 4 could possibly be amongst the top 20 players in the NBA. I realize Jefferson, Igoudala, and Durant play for .500/sub-.500 teams but they were unfairly punished for this. Melo just missed to many games like Deron Williams so I really don't have a problem with him being left off the all-star team.

Other players that some may feel got snubbed were Vince Carter, Ray Allen, Mo Williams, and Deron Williams (who missed 13 games due to injury). Some young players that have broken out this year that got slight consideration were David Lee, Rajon Rondo, Paul Millsap, and Nene. I don't think any of those four were really snubbed.

Some guys who got in but may not have truly deserved it were Jameer Nelson, Shaq, Tony Parker, and David West who made it as reserves while Allen Iverson was voted in by the fans. I feel that guys like Chauncey Billups, Pau, Rashard Lewis, Danny Granger, and Brandon Roy really did deserve to be selected.

I would have replaced:
Al Jefferson for Shaq, I'm sorry Diesel but Jefferson is better. His stats are better and his team which does not have a lot of talent is 16-28, while your talent rich Suns are only 25-19.
Andre Igoudala for Jameer Nelson, Orlando has 3 all-stars while Boston and the Lakers have 2, Cleveland has one and Philly has none. Philly is 22-22 because of Igoudala's play especially with the injuries of Elton Brand. Nelson is having a career year but he is not more deserving than MO Williams.
Kevin Durant for either Tony Parker or David West, I know West and Parker are the second best players on contenders but its hard to justify keeping the NBA's 6th leading scorer out of the All-Star game. Oh well, he will destroy the Freshman-Sophomore game and something tells me he will make his fair share of NBA All-star games.

Despite how I may feel, I do like this years' overall group of guys and look forward to watching the game in a couple of weeks. Here are the rosters:
