2024 NCAA Tournament: S Curve and Team Sheets
How I did vs the actual Bracket
I got 65 of the 68 teams correct
I got the 1 seeds correct and in the correct regional
I got all the 2 seeds correct
On 3 seeds, 4 seeds I got 3 of 4 correct.
Overall I had no seed difference of more than 2 seeds.
My gripes:
Michigan has every right to be angry. The committee clearly did not care about the result of the Big Ten Title game. Michigan is a 5 seed and are also punished geographically having to go to Denver. They also have to play the toughest 12 seed in UC San Diego. Coach Dusty May will have his team ready but they have tough bracket.
Louisville was in the top 24 in every metric, yet was dropped to an 8 seed. However, if they win their first round game, they would have a geographic advantage of number 1 seed Auburn playing in Lexington.
West Virginia deserved to get in. The committee needs to look at the teams you actually beat. They beat Gonzaga and Arizona on a neutral site and won a true road game in Kansas. They had 6 quad one wins which were 4 more than UNC and Xavier combined.
Boise and Indiana also had better resume's in my opinion than Texas, UNC and Xavier but the selection committee felt differently.
Interesting Geography Advantages:
The geographic advantage that some lower seeds received.
In the West Region 4 seeded Maryland and 5 seeded Memphis will have to travel all the way to Seattle to face two teams that are located much closer in 13 seeded Grand Canyon and 12 seeded Colorado St.
In the East Region 5 seed Oregon could play 4 seed Arizona in Seattle. While 3 seed Wisconsin could play 6 seed BYU in Denver. In fact 14 seed Montana is also closer to Denver.
The West regional first round game played in Wichita, Kansas between 6 seed Missouri and 11 seed Drake is as close to a perfectly geographic neutral site as one can find. Columbia, Missouri is about 4 hours away while Des Moines, Iowa is about 5 and half hours away.
