Hometown: Arlington, TX
Best Case NBA Comparison: Prime Grant Hill
Likely NBA Comparison: Joe Johnson/Brandon Roy
ROLE: Franchise Player with Superstar Potential that can play both
guard spots and small forward
BEST TOOLS: Scoring/Playmaking/Shooting/Length
Cunningham has a point guards skill set in a
forward’s body. He is already physically and mentally ready for the NBA at such
a young age. He is the clear-cut
number one pick and has very few weaknesses for such a young player. He should
be able to come in the league and have an instant impact.
The toughest thing that Cunningham will need
to overcome is the high expectations of being the number one pick and playing
for a team that is completely rebuilding. In interviews Cunningham has stated
that he is excited to play in Detroit. He would be an ideal fit next to
defensive stopper Jerami Grant and young slasher Saddiq Bey. The Pistons lack a
great point guard, so my guess is that they start Cunningham there from day
one.

Likely NBA Comparison: Jamal Crawford/JR Smith
ROLE: Starting Shooting Guard
BEST TOOLS: Scoring/Elite Athletic Ability/Playmaking
The last time the Rockets ended up with the
player drafted at #2 it was in 1999. They traded up and took a playmaking athletic
freak named Steve Francis. Green is cut from the same mold even though the two
players have very different body types. With Green and Kevin Porter Jr. the
Rockets have two very athletic and exciting young players. They should provide many
highlight dunks which should remind people in Houston of Phi Slama Jama.
Green proved that he could score against grown
men in the G-League last year so that is very encouraging for his NBA
projection. Green is a great scorer that knows how use his elite athletic
ability to create his own shot. If Green were 6’8” instead of 6’5” he would be
the clear number two prospect and could even challenge Cunningham for #1. Green
only worked out for Houston and Detroit so many speculate that he as top 2
lock.

Best Case NBA Comp: Prime Chris Bosh
Likely NBA Comparison: Marcus Camby/Bam Adebayo
ROLE: Franchise Big Man Perennial/All-Defensive Team Player/#3
Scorer on a contender
BEST TOOLS: Elite Shot Blocking and Defensive Presence/Mid-Range Shooting
Mobley is the perfect versatile big man for
today’s NBA. He was very productive in at USC where he won PAC 12 Player of the
Year and leading USC to the Elite Eight. He has the size and skill set to start
at center and power forward. He is one of the safest picks in the draft because
at worst he projects as an elite defender at the next level. On offense, he has
a nice jump shot and decent perimeter skills.
He should go no lower than the Cavs at #3. The
Rockets may take him at #2 or there could be a team with multiple picks looking
to trade up like the Thunder or Magic. The Cavs only have this one pick, so
they are more likely to trade down than other lottery teams. However, I think
Mobley is the prospect they want most. Given their need and his fit, they may
have even drafted him if they had the #1 pick.

Best Case NBA Comparison: Giannis Antetokounmpo

ROLE: Elite Defender and Versatile Player
BEST TOOLS: Defense/Playmaking/Length/Winning Intangibles
Barnes has clearly established himself among
the elite prospects after a great season in college and an even better showing
at the combine and workouts. Barnes might be the versatile player in the class
as he can guard all five positions and on offense can play as a point forward. i
think on the right team he can have a great impact as a Marion/Green do
everything glue guy.
Barnes is a guy that fits perfect with the
Raptors culture built on defense, versatility, and toughness. The Raptors could also draft Jalen Suggs at #4
as he would be the successor to free agent Kyle Lowry. The Raptors are involved
in a lot of trade rumors as they have been rumored to move Pascal Siakim and
have also been rumored to be interested in Ben Simmons. I could also see the
Thunder trading up two spots to get Barnes here.

Best Case NBA Comparison: Chauncey Billups
Likely NBA Comparison: Jrue Holiday/Baron Davis
ROLE: Elite Starting Point Guard
BEST TOOLS: Size for a guard/Playmaking/On Ball Defense
Suggs has everything one looks for in a point
guard in today’s NBA. He brings size, playmaking, and is a great defender. He
played a major part in Gonzaga’s near perfect season and had the shot of the
tournament in the semifinals. The former quarterback brings elite intangibles
such as leadership and toughness. After seeing the impact Jrue Holiday had on
the Bucks winning the title, it is easy to see how important a physical defense
guard is.
The Magic have a group of young guards in Cole
Anthony, RJ Hampton and Markelle Fultz (still only 23) but Suggs has good
chance to be better than any of them long term. Suggs may be the safest
prospect in this class given his size and willingness as a defender.

BEST TOOLS: Scoring/Elite Athletic Ability/Ball Handling
Bouknight knows how to use his elite athletic
tools to get to the basket at will. He is a walking bucket getter that can
score in a variety of ways. He is a little slender, but he makes up for it by
playing with toughness and confidence.
The Brooklyn native could end up being mentored
by fellow NYC and UConn legend Kemba Walker. Bouknight could be an immediate
impact guy with OKC’s second unit. Bouknight and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would
form a nice backcourt of the future. Kuminga is a higher rated player but they a
very similar player to Kuminga in Darius Bazley.

AST 7.4 REB
Hometown: Melbourne, Australia
NBA Comparison: Tomáš Satoranský/Shaun Livingston
ROLE: Starting Point Guard but not a primary scorer
BEST TOOLS: Playmaking/Basketball IQ/Passing
I personally would take Mosey Moody here, but I am buying the rumors of Giddey to the Warriors because of the fit. He
has the ideal size and vision to play the Shaun Livingston role in the second
unit. Most importantly he could ease the ball handling workload of Steph Curry.
This of course is assuming that the Warriors don’t trade this pick as part of a
package for a proven veteran like Bradley Beal, Pascal Siakim or Myles Turner.
Giddey had a good year in his single season at
the top level of the NBL in Australia. Scouts know he has the height and
playmaking skills. He is probably the riskiest lottery pick in this draft but
his upside as a playmaker is only matched by Cade Cunningham.

ROLE: Starting combo forward and #2/3 scoring option
BEST TOOLS: Athletic Ability/Rebounding/Mid Range Shooting
Kuminga has all the athletic traits and the
skill set that scouts look for in a prospect. He has the size and versatility
to play both forward spots. He is a tough player that seems to enjoy doing the
dirty work of rebounding and defending. Given his versatility, there is not
much bust potential in my opinion. There will be a place for him in the league
for the next 15 years.
This would be an ideal pick for the Magic as
they may even consider Kumiunga at #5. The Magic are in a full rebuild after trading
Nik Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon at the trade deadline. Kuminga has a
similar body type and athletic ability to Gordon though I think he is a more
willing defender.

Wagner does a little bit of everything as a

solid considering he was the third option on a good team. He is one of the
safer picks in the draft and would fit nice on pretty much any team
He would be an ideal fit in Sacramento as they
already have great offensive players in De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Tyrese
Haliburton. Wagner gives the Kings the toughness they need as a rebounder and
defender. He can come in right away and backup at both forward spots

may even trade up again to get him. He checks every box on what one looks for
in a wing prospect. In his one year at Arkansas, he was the best player and go

The Spurs are in an interesting spot as they
seem to be moving in a younger direction. They have a ton of cap space but it
appears they will probably let DeMar
DeRozan, Rudy Gay and Patty Mills walk in free agency.
Sengun is the best player on the board and
would be a great fit in San Antonio. He recently worked out with the Spurs and the fits what they look for in a prospect. Sengun might be the most
physical and dominant young prospect to ever come out of Europe. In an era
where modern big men are seen as defenders and court spacers on offense it is
nice to see a young player with an advanced offensive skill set.

Johnson has ideal length and the ability to

the rim and he is also a good passer for a forward. His shooting numbers were a
little weird as he shot well from 3 (44%) but shot horribly from the free throw
line (63%). He could be a long-term
asset for the Pacers but given that new coach Rick Carlisle want to win now, it
is more likely they trade this pick. Both the Rockets (picks #23 and #24) and
Thunder (picks #16 and #18) have the ambition to move up and take Johnson here.

Kispert was arguably the best shooter in
college basketball the past two seasons. He is NBA ready both physically and
mentally. He may not have the upside of many other projected lottery picks, but
scouts know exactly what they are getting with him. My guess is that the Warriors
(if they don’t make any trades) take a high upside guy at #7 and then go with a
safer NBA ready guy at #14.

Mitchell is the type of gritty player that is
easy to root for. He was the story of the NCAA tournament as he led Baylor to a
National Title. He is a great competitor and is good an on-ball defender as we
have seen. His upside is limited due to his age and lack of size, but he should
be a great pro.
With all the uncertainty of the future of
Bradley Beal, Washington needs to think about adding a young guard that can
play behind Beal and Russell Westbrook. The Wizards were DEAD LAST in defense
in the NBA last year giving up 118.5 points per game. Mitchell is the type of
defender that the Wizards desperately could use.

Garuba is the perfect size as a starting power

ball center. Garuba already has an NBA frame and will instantly contribute on
the glass. His shooting must improve but he does have nice form on his shot. After
going with a scoring guard at #6 the Thunder add much needed help to a defense

The Pelicans get a much needed long range shooter.
The Pelicans need guys to space the floor to maximize Zion Williamson. A lot is
being made of Duarte’s age as he is already 24, but he is ready to help a
contender right now. He is a great catch and shoot prospect. He does have some
Reggie Miller to his game with his ability to run off screens and hit shots.
I am most proud of my player comparisons for
Duarte. Garcia and Lee were both very productive shooters coming out of college
and like Duarte they slid a little bit due to their older draft age. Both were
picked in the range that Duarte was chosen. Lee was taken at #22 in 2008 and
Garcia was taken at #23 in 2005. Garcia is also from the Dominican Republic.
Both Garcia and Lee had long NBA careers and Duarte should too despite any age

The Hawks really have no major needs so adding
basically a lesser version of Trae Young may be the smart move here in case
Young gets injured again. Cooper is a local kid that is a true point guard. He is

McBride is a coach’s dream with his versatile

a 3 and D guard like Willie Green. I would love to see this happen though the
Pelicans may need to trade into the first round for this to happen.

He has played as a point forward and has shown
he can score when needed. He looks like a guy that could use a few more years
overseas. He is the type of prospect that could easily sneak into the back end
of the first round or could go completely undrafted. With six total picks, one
would think that the Thunder plan on drafting one guy they could stash for a
year or two in Europe.

Preston’s story is utterly amazing. In
high school he was 6’0”/140 and barely played, by chance plays in an AAU
tournament with his best friend and then he ended up working his way up on a
Prep team and he uploaded videos to get noticed by Ohio. He is a great
all-around player that can fill up the stat sheet. He has above average
athletic traits but is still very slender.
The best comparison I could find that combines
his game and story is that of Starks. Similar to Preston, Starks had no college
offers out of high school and went to three small colleges before playing at OK
St then had to play in the CBA and WBL before he finally broke through as a
great player on the Knicks throughout the 90’s.
