2019 Mock Draft

NOTES:
Value is based on my composite big board
Measurements based on NFL Combine

First Round

1. ARIZONA CARDINALS (3-13)

4. Kyler Murray-Oklahoma-QB  Value -3

5-10/207/JR
NFL Comp: Michael Vick/Doug Flutie

It looks like new Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury will bring his unconventional spread offense to the NFL and will want a certain QB to run it. We now all expect that QB to be Heisman winner Kyler Murray. This is a true need meets fit pick here.

2. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (4-12)

Nick Bosa-Ohio St.-EDGE  Value +1

6-4/266/29 reps/7.1 cone
NFL Comparison: JustinSmith/Chris Long

DeForest Buckner is a stud on the inside and Arik Armstead had his best year as a pro and they acquired Dee Ford but they still lack a young edge rusher.

Bosa has all the tools to become an All Pro. He has a great motor, great technique and loves the game of football.

3. NEW YORK JETS (4-12)

Josh Allen-UK-OLB/ED  Value EVEN

6-5/262/4.63/28 reps
NFL Comp: Aldon Smith/LaVar Arrington

The Jets will want to trade down, but if they are unable to, they will want an edge presence to help out interior rushers Leonard Williams and Henry Anderson. Allen is an ultra productive rusher that can play both DE and OLB. He can rush the passer, drop into coverage and is a great open field tackler as well.

4. OAKLAND RAIDERS (4-12)

Ed Oliver-Houston-DL3T  Value -2

6-2/287/32 reps.
NFL Comp: Warren Sapp/Booger McFarland

The Raiders had a league low 13 sacks in 2018. They need to add both an edge rusher and an interior rusher to make their defense competitive. Just like he had in Tampa with Sapp and McFarland, John Gruden will want a quick, ultra powerful defensive tackle to pair with Maurice Hurst. Oliver and Hurst give Oakland the best young tackle duo in the league.

5. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (5-11)

Devin White-LSU-LB  Value -2
6-0/237/4.42/22 reps
NFL Comp: Bobby Wagner/Myles Jack

Speaking of Tampa it is nearly impossible to find a mock that does not have them taking White. One can't blame them as he is the perfect 3 down LB for today's NFL. He would instantly make Lavonte David's life easier and improve one of the worst defenses in the NFL last year.

6. NEW YORK GIANTS (5-11)
Quinnen Williams-Bama-DL/3T/1T  Value +4

6-3/303
NFL Comp: Bryant Young/Kawann Short

The Giants pass on a QB to take the prospect who many consider to be the best along with Nick Bosa. Every draft a top 1/2 prospect falls down to the 5-7 range. In 2018 it was #5 Bradley Chubb  and in 2017 it was #6 Jamal Adams. I predict either Williams or Allen may fall on Thursday night. If either fall to #6, the Giants will be very happy.

7. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (5-11)

HOCKENSON PANCAKE!!!!!

T.J. Hockenson-Iowa-TE  Value near EVEN

6-5/251/37.5v/17r
NFL Comp: Jeremy Shockey/Rob Gronkowski

After coming a win away from the Super Bowl in 2017, Jacksonville took a major step back in 2018. They still have the defensive talent but need more play makers on the offense to help newly signed Nick Foles. Hockenson can help in BOTH the pass and run game. He has great hands and has great experience as a blocker as well.

8. DETROIT LIONS (6-10)

Jonah Williams-Bama-OL  Value -2

6-5/302/34.63 arms/23r
NFL Comp: Joe Stlaey/Justin Pugh

The Lions help protect Matthew Stafford by adding Williams. He can start immediately at right guard then eventually slide over to right tackle as Ricky Wagner gets older. He can also be use as insurance at left tackle if Taylor Decker becomes too expensive.

9. BUFFALO BILLS (6-10)
Jawaan Taylor-Florida-OT  Value EVEN

6-5/312/35.13/24r
NFL Comp: Laremy Tunsil/Morgan Moses

Other than Mitch Morse, the Bills just brought in a bunch of below average veterans in free agency to compete for playing time. Taylor can probably start right away at right tackle and may eventually even overtake Dion Dawkins on the left side

10. DENVER BRONCOS (6-10)
Devin Bush-Michigan-LB  Value -6
5-11/234/4.43/21r/40.5v
NFL CompRyan Shazier/Eric Kendricks

New Head Coach Vic Fangio will pound the table to GM John Elway to get him an insanely athletic off ball linebacker that can play sideline to sideline. This may be a little higher than Bush's true 'value' but it's a lot smarter than reaching on Drew Lock.

11. CINCINNATI BENGALS (6-10)

Dwayne Haskins-Ohio St.-QB  Value +6
6-3/231/JR
NFL CompMatt Ryan/Warren Moon

One way or another I think this will be Haskins' floor. The Bengals could keep him as a replacement for the average at best Andy Dalton. They could also trade down to the Giants or Redskins.

12. GREEN BAY PACKERS (6-9-1)

Andre Dillard-WSU-OT  Value near EVEN

6-5/315/33.5/24r
NFL Comp: Rodger Saffold/Jordan Gross

After going defense heavy in free agency, the Packers shift to their attention to the other side of the ball. Both starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga and swing tackle Jason Spriggs will be free agents next year and Green Bay usually lets lineman walk (TJ Lang and Josh Sitton recently). This would be a very smart pick as there's a pretty big drop on the O-Line after Dillard.

13. MIAMI DOLPHINS (7-9)

Montez Sweat-Miss. St.-EDGE  Value EVEN
6-6/260/4.41/7.0 cone/21r
NFL Comp: Chandler Jones/Preston Smith

In 2016, Miami was picking at pick #13 and they got a player with top 5 talent to slip to them due to character concerns. I see history repeating itself here as Miami grabs the ultra athletic edge rusher to replace Cameron Wake. Sweat was kicked off of Michigan State's team but had a great two years at Mississppi State where he had double digits sacks both seasons.

14. ATLANTA FALCONS (7-9)

Christian Wilkins-Clemson-DL3T  Value -4
6-3/315/28r
NFL Comp: Kenny Clark/Randy Starks

Wilkins is the perfect player here as he can play with Grady Jarrett and could also replace him if they are unable to lock up Jarrett to an extension. Wilkins could flourish in Dan Quinn's attacking athletic defense.

15. WASHINGTON REDSKINS (7-9)

D.K. Metcalf-Ole Miss-WRF  Value +3
6-3/228/4.33/40.5v/27r
NFL Comp: Demaryius Thomas/Terrell Owens

No WR on the current roster had more than 600 yards last season. Metcalf is was the freak of the combine and could not ask for a better landing spot than with Jay Gruden.

In this scenario I have the Redskins trading their second round pick (#46) and next year's second round pick for Josh Rosen

16. CAROLINA PANTHERS (7-9)

Brian Burns-FSU-ED/OLB  Value -4
6-5/249/7.01/4.53
NFL Comp: Kamerion Wimbley/Andre Carter

Burns is a tad bit undersized at DE but he makes up for it with great length, speed and motor. His stock has been rising and could go as high as the top 10.

17. NEW YORK GIANTS

Drew Lock-Missouri-QB  Value -4
6-4/228/SR
NFL Comp: Blaine Gabbert/Ryan Tannehill

The Eli Manning era has been great for the most part but it is time to find his successor. Lock fits the Giants mold as a big pocket passer. They could always take a QB at #6, trade for Josh Rosen or do the unthinkable and not even draft a QB early at all. The Giants are the most interesting team to watch on Thursday night.

18. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (8-7-1)

Garrett Bradbury-NC St.-OL/C  Value -8
6-3/306/31.75/34r
NFL Comp: Ali Marpet/Matt Paradis

Bradbury is among the safest prospects in this year's draft. He was a three year starter and won the Rimington Award as the best center in the nation. This may seem high based on value but the Vikings are only a good offensive line away from being Super Bowl contenders.

19. TENNESSEE TITANS (9-7)

19. Clelin Ferrell-Clemson-EDGE  Value EVEN
6-4/264/25r
NFL Comp: Robert Quinn/Ryan Kerrigan

Brian Orakpo retired and Cameron Wake is a great veteran, but the future lies in last year's second round pick Harold Landry and whomever they draft to pair with him. The Titans are in an ideal spot to get a pass rusher if Burns or Ferrell is still available at #19.

20. PITTSBURGH STEELERS (9-6-1)

Byron Murphy-Washington-CB  Value +3
5-11/190/4.55
NFL Comp: Cortland Finnegan/Kareem Jackson

Joe Haden will be a free agent next year and Artie Burns has been average at best thus far. Murphy is small but as physical as any DB in this year's draft. The Pittsburgh secondary needs to improve to keep up with Cleveland's newly improved receiving core.

21. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (10-6)

Rashan Gary-Michigan-DL3T/5T  Value +7
6-4/277/26 reps/4.58
NFL Comp: Cameron Jordan/Derrick Harvey

Seattle replaces one Michigan DE (Frank Clark) with another Michigan DE. Gary has the size and athletic ability to be an ideal 4-3 base end. His lack of college production (had less than 10 career sacks) is concerning considering how high of a recruit he was, his upside is Jordan but it would not be surprising if he ended up like Harvey, who also had all the size and skill set but could never put it all together.

22. BALTIMORE RAVENS (10-6)

Marquise Brown-Oklahoma-WR  Value near EVEN
5-9/166
NFL Comp: DeSean Jackson/Ernest Givens

The Ravens have some nice young TE's , but they may have the worst WR core in the league. 'Hollywood' Brown is a small speedster in the DJack/Givens mold. He can give Lamar Jackson a guy that can spread the field and be used in the short screen passing game as well.

23. HOUSTON TEXANS (11-5)

Cody Ford-Oklahoma-OL/RT/G  Value -6
6-4/324/34.0/19r
NFL Comp: Daryl Williams/James Carpenter

The Texans do not have a single lineman that is an above average starter. Ford is a mauler that can compete for a starting job at tackle or guard. The Texans need to double down on the O-Line with another pick in the second or third round.

24. OAKLAND RAIDERS

VIA PRE DRAFT TRADE WITH THE CHICAGO BEARS (12-4)
Greedy Williams-LSU-CB  Value +9
6-2/185/4.37
NFL Comp: Darius Slay/Champ Bailey

The Raiders need another outside corner to pair with Gareon Conley. Greedy has the best nickname and fits the mold as a long, athletic corner with great ball skills. However his stock has dropped slightly due to his slender build and tackling ability. Oakland has enough big hitters in the secondary with LaMarcus Joyner and Karl Joesph so Greedy can do what he does best as a pure cover corner.

25. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (9-7)

Dexter Lawrence-Clemson-DL1T  Value near EVEN
6-4/342/36r
NFL CompLinval Joseph/Haloti Ngata

Fletcher Cox is as good a Defensive Lineman as anyone not named Aaron Donald, however the other guys there are all past their prime. Lawrence knows his role as a run stuffing nose after playing on a loaded Clemson D-Line. This would be a home run for Philly to have a run stopper in a division with arguably the two best running backs in football in Zeke and Saquon.

26. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (10-6)

Jerry Tillery-Notre Dame-DL3T/5T  Value near EVEN
6-6/295/7.45/23r
NFL Comp: Stephon Tuitt/Cameron Heyward

AJ Brown would be a great pick here and would fit a need but Colts GM Chris Ballard has stressed building though the trenches. Tillery can has the length to play base end in a 4-3 and the size to play inside.  I have them keeping Tillery in the state of Indiana. Last year the Colts took a lineman (on the offense) from Notre Dame, Quenton Nelson, and it worked out pretty well as he was first team All Pro as a rookie.

27. OAKLAND RAIDERS

VIA PRE DRAFT TRADE WITH DALLAS  (10-6)

Josh Jacobs-Bama-RB  Value near EVEN
5-10/220
NFL Comp: Ronnie Brown/Marion Barber

The Raiders can add some weapons on offense after going defense with picks #4 and #24. They have their choice of Jacobs, TE Noah Fant and WR AJ Brown. Jacobs fills the biggest need as they cannot rely on Isaiah Crowell to be their lead back.

28. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (12-4)

Dre'Mont Jones-Ohio St-DL3T  Value -9
6-3/281/7.71
NFL Comp: Tommie Harris/Mike Daniels

The O-Line may be a bigger need but the drop from in defensive tackles from pick #28 to #60 is pretty big. Jones could go from playing with one Bosa inside to playing with his older brother. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram may be the best end duo in the league, but they need more help on the interior of the line.

29. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (10-6)

VIA PRE DRAFT TRADE WITH KANSAS CITY (12-4)
A.J. Brown-Ole Miss-WR  Value +5
6-1/226/4.49/36.5v/19r
NFL Comp: Anquan Boldin/Andre Johnson

Russell Wilson is a lucky man, he's the highest paid QB in the league, is married to a famous singer and now he gets the strong, physical WR they have lacked in AJ Brown. Brown has been more productive than his college teammate DK Metcalf but his height causes to slip to here.

30. GREEN BAY PACKERS

Jeffery Simmons-Miss. St.-DL3T  Value +8
6-4/301
NFL Comp: Shariff Floyd/Nick Fairley
VIA PRE DRAFT TRADE WITH NEW ORLEANS (13-3)

The Packers have a great D-Line right now but Mike Daniels will be a free agent next season and his play was below his standard last year as he was plagued by injuries. Simmons tore his ACL and will miss this season but he's a top 10 talent when healthy. This is a great investment for a team with multiple first round picks.

31. LOS ANGELES RAMS (13-3)

Dalton Risner-Kansas St-OL/C/G/RT  Value near EVEN
6-5/312/34.0/23r
NFL Comp: Cody Whitehair/Matt Light

The Rams are in a good spot to have their choice between many good interior lineman. I have them taking Risner as he is the highest rated and most versatile lineman left on the board. Chris Lindstrom and Erik McCoy would also make great picks.

32. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (11-5)

Daniel Jones-Duke-QB  Value -4
6-5/221/JR
NFL Comp: very poor man's Eli Manning

The Pats get a young QB to groom under the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady. By taking Jones in the first round they will have high rights for up to five years which was something they did not have with Jimmy Garoppolo.

Second Round

33. ARIZONA CARDINALS

N'Keal Harry-ASU-WR  Value -5
6-2/228/4.53/38.5v/27r
NFL Comp: Dez Bryant/Kenny Britt

37. NEW YORK GIANTS
DeAndre Baker-UGA-CB  Value +12
5-11/193/4.52
NFL Comp: Janoris Jenkins/Marcus Peters

38. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

NFL Comp: Eugene Monroe/Ja'Wuan James

39. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Taylor Rapp-Washington-S   Value near +4

40. BUFFALO BILLS
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson-Florida-DB/S   Value +6

NFL Comp: TJ Ward/Reshad Jones

Bills double up with Florida players here

41. DENVER BRONCOS
